Like many people, I hate being stuck half way through a 4 hour car ride, with my laptop battery going dead in a few minutes... But, there are some simple steps to increase your battery life by as much as 30 minutes! To increase your laptop battery life, follow the simple steps below.
If your laptop has a screen dimming feature, bring your laptops screen brightness down to 50% or more, and that can easily give you 5-10 more minutes of battery life. If you have a wireless card, and you are not using it, turn it off either on your laptop, or in device manager in Windows, this will increase your battery life by a minute or more. If you have any unneeded USB devices, or other peripherals plugged in, turn them off, or unplug them, that can increase your battery life by a very small amount, depending on how many you disable, but it will help. If you have Vista, and Aero is turned on, go to your personalize menu, then to your theme manager, and turn Aero off, this can easily bring your battery life up by 5 or more minutes. If you have Vista, then get a 1 or 2GB SD or flash drive and use it with Windows Readyboost (watch my YouTube video that tells you how to enable ReadyBoost by clicking here) If you use Readyboost, it will decrease the time the hard drive needs to run, and use the Readyboost as the file cache, and your SD card flash drive has not moving parts, which can increase your battery life by as much as 5 minutes!
Well, congratulations, you have just increased your laptops battery life! Weather its 5 minutes, or 50 minutes, it all helps, and it could mean the difference between you getting to your destination with a working laptop or not. Thanks for reading!
